Classroom Escape Rooms: A Teacher's 45-Minute Plan
Note: links to Party Puzzle Kits products are our own products.
Teams of 3-5 keep everyone talking; with more than 5, someone checks out. Give roles: Reader, Recorder, Checker, Timekeeper.
Timeline that fits one period: 5 min story and rules, then 30-35 min puzzles, 5 min final code, 5 min debrief.
One player set per team. Black-and-white printing is fine. Pre-cut anything fiddly for grades 3-4.
Check codes quietly so teams don't overhear each other's answers.
Debrief: "What strategy helped when you were stuck?" builds the problem-solving talk you want.
Be honest about the skills it covers: reading tables, inference, simple equations, and coordinates. If you need formal standards alignment, map the activity yourself against your state's list.
Ready-made option: Saltbeard Classroom Edition (our product).
